What Is the PNP and How Does It Work?

Immigrate to Canada Through a Province That Needs Your Skills

The Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) offers a powerful alternative for skilled workers, graduates, and entrepreneurs who want to immigrate to a specific province or territory in Canada.

Each province designs its own immigration streams based on local economic and labor market needs. Whether through Express Entry-aligned streams or direct provincial applications, a nomination can significantly boost your chances of obtaining permanent residency — especially since most Express Entry PNP streams award an additional 600 CRS points, virtually guaranteeing an Invitation to Apply (ITA).

At Gateway Legal Consult, we help you determine the best-fit provincial stream for your profile, guide you through the entire application process, and ensure your submission is both accurate and strategically positioned for approval.

Frequently asked question:

Not in all cases. While employer-driven streams often require a job offer, several PNP streams — especially those aligned with Express Entry or tailored to international graduates — accept applications without one if other criteria are met.
Nomination timelines range between 2–6 months, depending on the province. After nomination, Express Entry applications for permanent residence typically take an additional 6 months, while non-Express Entry routes may take longer.
Technically, permanent residents can live anywhere in Canada. However, if you’re nominated under a specific province’s PNP, you are legally expected to settle there initially. Moving too soon can raise concerns about your intent and affect future immigration applications or renewals.
